who is tell tales?
Tell Tales is an independent collective devoted to promoting the short story form and publishing innovative new literature alongside well-known writers. Founded in (2003) by Courttia Newland and Nii Ayikwei Parkes, Tell Tales has published four acclaimed anthologies (Tell Tales V1 | Tell Tales V2 | Tell Tales V3), with work from the likes of Nicholas Royle, Orange Futures winner Rachel Trezise, Booker Prize finalist Romesh Gunesekera, John Llewellyn Rhys Prize winner Kamila Shamsie as well as Maggie Gee, who was shortlisted for the Orange Prize in 2002.
Each collection is accompanied by a live tour and our live literature events use unique ‘sound-scapes’ produced by DJ Zak Akhimien of Amplified and Indo-Jazz musician Arun Ghosh
As well as producing a successful publications, Tell Tales acts as a platform encouraging new talent and providing exposure to writers who may previously have found it difficult to get a step-up in the literary ladder. ome of the writers first ‘seen’ in Tell Tales are: Tom Lee, whose story, Island 21, was broadcast on BBC radio and has his first collection of short stories due from Jonathan Cape in 2009; Shiromi Pinto, who published her first novel, Trussed, with Serpent’s Tail in 2005; Saman Shad, who won the Penguin Short Story Award in 2006; Niki Aguirre, wh published her first collection of short stories, 29 Ways to Drown, with lubin & kleyner in 2007; Gemma Weekes, whose debut novel, Love Me, will be published by Chatto in 2008 and Salena Godden, whose semi-autobigraphical tome, Springfield Road, will be released by Harper in June 2008.
